The first person to live in the farmhouse was Dr. Abbott. He owned the local drugstore on the square in downtown McKinney. Dr. Abbott later sold the property to Dr. Pearson. Dr. Pearson was a Dentist and also had an office on the square. In the 1890s, Dr. Pearson gave a share of the property to his sister-in-law, Maggie Pearson. Maggie's husband, James Madison Pearson, is very famous in McKinney's history. He was elected Mayor in 1893 and served unit 1903. In fact, Pearson Street is named in his honor! While he was Mayor, McKinney got its first city park, built its first water & sewer system, built the first public school, and saw its first city building codes. He was later appointed District Judge! The house and property remained residential until the late 1990s when it was converted to a restaurant. The property was purchased in 2016 by 33 Restaurant Group. It took over 2-years to restore. The Yard opened for business on September 4th, 2018.
